games based on movies aren’t usually a good thing; Superman Returns for the Xbox 360 and the ever so hated E.T. for
the Atari are just a couple examples of the many movie based videogames that went wrong -- but there have also been few exceptions;
such as King Kong for the Xbox 360, and of course one of my favorite games of all time Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64.
But which category does Wolverine pounce in?
Wolverine, one of the most beloved comic
book characters, is back on the Xbox 360 with X-men Origins: Wolverine; a tie-in with this summer’s big blockbuster
movie. Having not seen the film; I can’t say if it follows the movie or not --- from the looks of things I’d
say that the game is much better than the movie; which is rare when talking about movie based games.
A game that finally unleashes the full capability of Logan [Wolverine’s real name, for those of you with your head under
a rock]; sure there have been other attempts to give us the ‘real’ Wolverine, and even though Marvel Ultimate
Alliance is very fun to play – you never see or feel the full power of Wolverine. Splitting open guards with your adamantium
claws -- pouncing and jumping like the true animal he is – the gameplay is very fluent and true to the real Wolverine.
The only flaw that I could see in the game is the replayabilty; it’s fun to play once,
but I don’t see many people picking up the controller to play again – this is where some sort of multiplayer comes
in, maybe one day they’ll create a download that gives us some sort of online interaction.
