Spider-man 3
In theaters now
Movie Rating: 8.4
Spider-man 3, the most expensive movie ever made as of today, was released on May
4th, 2007 with mixed feelings for many. Many people felt that there was too much romance, and many wanted more Venom.
True, there should have been more Venom, but they did an excellent job at teasing the crowd with Spider-man's biggest nemesis.
Venom will be back in upcoming films, don't worry fan-boys! Either he'll be back as himself or attatched to another
- maybe even Carnage?
Personally I was hoping for a sneak peak at The Lizard (Dr. Connors). Dr.
Connors was first seen in the second Spider-man movie as Peter's one armed professor. That should have been enough for
them to establish his character and use him in this movie.
Bruce Campbell pulls off another flawless performance as the French maitre'd. Actually it's his best yet in a Spidy film.
So far in every Spider-man film I love spotting Bruce Campbell and Stan Lee's cameo - they're a great addition to all of the films. I'm hoping this sparks some interest in making an
"Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness" film. Especially since Sam Raimi is already directing the Spider-man films. I know a lot of you would pay to see that.
Certain effects that Sam Raimi gives his films are priceless, and his direction
in this film is no different from the others - perfect.
Filmed with great special effects, which shows you were most of the money went.
Some of the best stylized fight sequences that I've seen in a long time, which were pulled off by great actors, and CG of
course.
The beautiful Bryce Dallas Howard takes on the role of Gwen Stacy, a character I'd love to see more of in upcoming releases. If
you're a comicbook fan then you'll know that Gwen was actually Peter's love interest before Mary Jane Watson, so the timeline
is off in this film. But, I don't hold it against them because if they used Gwen in the first movie the non-comicbook
fan viewers would not understand because all they know is Mary Jane. I'm just hoping for more of Gwen in Spider-man
4 - if it's released.
Now, onto the parts that I did not like. Makeup, does Peter Parker ever wear
makeup in the comics? Well, he sure did in the movie. When Peter transforms into "the black" Spider-man he takes
on a different attitude, and I guess has time to apply eyeliner and dye his hair black. I think we could have done without
that.
The story wasn't as developed as I hoped. They did a good job at introducing
new characters such as Sandman and Venom, but I wanted more meat in the script. More scenes with Eddie Brock and Peter
maybe - or more scenes showing Spider-man in the black suit.
Not as good as the first two attempts, but still a strong release.
The good: Venom, black Spider-man, Bruce Campbell. What else do you need?
The
bad: Peter in makeup?
