Smallville: The Complete 8th Season
Rating: 4 out of 5

As a diehard Superman fan it was hard for me to sit down and watch Smallville at first; their soap opera like theatrics and storylines that did not follow any Superman material are the main reason why I passed on the show for many years.  Finally, a few years ago, I was able to tie myself down to watch the first season to see what the buzz was about and to see if it was worth my time and money.  To my surprise I found that Smallville was not a bad show at all; in fact I actually enjoyed it.  I was able to look past the exaggerated origins of Superman and most of the characters seen in the comic.

Warner Bros. recently released Smallville: Season 8 on Blu-Ray and DVD; while it is in no way comparable to the first season… season eight has a lot to offer old and new fans of the show.  The cast is better than ever; after playing these characters for eight plus seasons… it’s no wonder that they seem comfortable in their roles on the show.  The special effects are also something worth mentioning; quite better from previous seasons.  Storyline is the Achilles Heel for the later seasons of Smallville, and this goes for most shows that have had a great run like Smallville.  Eight seasons is a lot for any show, and of course the storylines are going to seem watered down and worn down – Smallville is no different.

Smallville is still a good show after eight seasons, but I must say that I would love to see it end at one point in the near future.  It may seem harsh to say something about a show that I still enjoy, but it has to end at some point, and I’d like it to end while the show is still relatively good… and not beaten into the ground like other shows that have lasted eight or more seasons.
