Scream has a special place in my heart, the first one came out when I was sixteen, and I wouldn’t
say that it was my first glimpse into the horror genre, but it definitely rekindled my love for the (then) fallen
and extinguished genre. After viewing it multiple times when I was a teenager and re-visiting it as an
adult now, I must say that I have pretty much the same respect and love for this movie. Sure the plot is
barely holding on by a thread, but that’s what I love and expect from my teenager slasher flicks.
At the time, Scream featured a relatively fresh and new cast… the first victim, Drew Barrymore, was the only “popular”
cast member, and to kill her off within the first ten minutes was unheard of. Of course the majority of
the cast members have gone on to bigger and possibly better things, but at one time in the mid-nineties they were all seen
together running from the ghost-face killer.
This is one of Wes Craven’s
(Director) best and most popular titles amongst his hefty list of credits – and Kevin Williamson (Writer) hits it out
of the park on his first attempt at screenwriting. With the combination of these two behind the scene stars,
and the witty and pretty stars on the screen… Scream was always destined for greatness.
The transfer of this film to Blu-ray is great; it’s nice to have this horror/thriller
classic on Blu-ray and in my collection where it belongs.
