Rating:3.2 out of 5

Playing as a genetically mutated man with shape-shifting abilities has never been so much fun; well, I can’t actually think of any other game featuring a genetically mutated man with shape-shifting abilities -- so that’s not exactly saying much about the game.

You play as Alex Mercer – a man scorned and looking for answers – and boy do you find them.  Alex has the ability to consume anybody in the game; while doing so he absorbs their memory, ability and their actual form; giving it a fun and unique game-play that never got old.

Prototype is another addition to the open world game list; joining other games such as Spider-man, Crackdown, Saints Row, and the overrated Grand Theft Auto series -- in my opinion another open environment game is always welcome just as long as it’s a new and fresh idea, which Prototype is a new concept but I just can’t stop feeling like it’s already been done before; the basic game-play and open world environment strongly resembles the later installments of the Spider-man games and Crackdown merged together.  While this is a much better game than Spider-man 3; it still falls short of Crackdown when it comes to re-playability.

A modern release featuring no online game-play often feels silly, but we can all hope for some sort of downloadable online game-play in the future.  Don’t let the fact that there’s no online play stop you from consuming each and every living person in Prototype; it’s a cool concept that should at least be checked out – even if you have to rent it before you buy.
