The Prestige, co-written and directed by the multi-talented Christopher Nolan, is another instant classic that will never
grow old no matter how many times you see it. If you’ve read my previous reviews of Mr. Nolan’s
work, you will notice a trend that I hope will never break; this man makes amazing movies. I’m not
even sure you can call all of his work “movies”, they’re more like art on film.
The Prestige boasts an amazing cast: Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine appear
as the leads of the film, but it also includes memorable roles by Scarlett Johansson, David Bowie, Andy Serkis, and Rebecca
Hall. This ensemble is amazing, and each actor performs perfectly. Although this cast
did an amazing job, I would say that the lead star in the film would have to be the well-planned and thought-out script, and
how the script was brought to life by Christopher Nolan’s direction. The way you are brought from
one place to the next, without seeing it coming, is simply amazing. This movie consists of multiple timelines…
within timelines, but it’s done so well that you’re able to establish what’s going on while you’re
watching it… and all without cheesy text on the screen telling you when it’s taking place.
Watching this movie over and over again is a treat for me, I have seen it
over fifteen times, and I’m always in the mood to watch it again. It’s especially thrilling
to view it with a newcomer, I love seeing the expression on their face… whether it’s shock or confusion. I
get a satisfaction from watching this movie that hardly any other movie can do. This is a definite buy,
because there’s no way you can just watch it once.
