The Number 23
Rating: 8.3

Reviewing titles like this is often hard because you don’t want to give away too much of the story, so I will try to keep it as basic as possible. "The Number 23" features a lot of elements that I love in a movie; twists, turns, good surprises, and even better acting. Jim Carrey gives another stellar performance, his best since "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind".

Walter Sparrow (played by Carrey) slips out of reality when his wife buys him a new book and he realizes that this is no ordinary book. It’s like jumping onto one big roller coaster of emotions and tension that when it finally stops you want to jump back on again ... maybe it’s to understand it more, or to catch something you may have missed the first time, or simply because you liked it that much.

But this movie may not be for everyone. It’s definitely a unique taste because of it’s weird twists and unique vision, but if you liked movies such as Memento, Prestige, and Fight Club ... you’ll appreciate this movie and what it has to offer.

The movie is not without flaws. I wish it would answer more questions that I had about the characters and situations. And why certain characters did what they did, such as the psychiatrist’s involvement with the book. Also, to me the ending was not as satisfying as it should have been, a movie such as this should keep the audience on the edge of their seat from start to finish, and I feel the movie ended a little sooner than it should. Again, I don’t want to go into detail because that will ruin the viewers experience, so I will leave it at that.

Good: Great performances and good twists.

Bad: Too many questions. Too happy of an ending.
