The Music Man
Rating: 2 out of 5

The Music Man, labeled as one of the last great musicals to come from any studio, is now available on Blu-Ray high-definition.  I’m not much of a musical lover; my wife is the musical enthusiast in the family – so of course I’m subjected to a musical viewing from time to time.  I must say that The Music Man is not one of my favorites.  It just seems odd that Warner Bros. would release The Music Man on Blu-ray before releasing Singin’ in the Rain, the beloved classic musical that is far superior to this one.  This movie just never caught my attention like the few musicals that I can actually say aren’t terrible.  In no way is this a horrible movie, but with so many old classic musicals out there, I would have to say this is near the bottom of the list for me.

Robert Preston, making his musical debut, plays “Professor” Harold Hill.  Robert plays this role perfectly, a definite stand-out in the movie.

If you’re a musical fan, this is probably for you, but if you’re an occasional viewer looking for something to fill you up – keep looking, I’m sure a better musical will come along shortly.
