Marvel Ultimate Alliance (2006)
Microsoft XBox 360
Rating: 8.5

X-men Legends III?  Instead of making another X-men Legends to add to the trilogy, Crave decided to branch off and make something a little different – a Marvel Ultimate game with the same style of game-play and same concept as X-men Legends.

Loaded with very interesting levels like the circus and underwater levels; the circus level actually allows you to play a full game of Pitfall, but the controls are a little buggy and unresponsive at times… although it’s fun to see Wolverine jumping on alligators and jumping over snakes.

Filled with great new characters like; Ms. Marvel, The Fantastic Four, Spider-girl, Iron Man, Dr Strange… need I say more?  A lot of characters that have been missing from the video game world for years, Crave does a great job at introducing these seldom seen characters to the public.

The opening cinematic was remarkable, making me wonder why all the cut scenes can’t look that good.  Some, but not all, scenes looked like they took the regular Xbox cinematic and put them on the 360 game.

Very good voice work, very believable and not annoying which is a great thing when it comes to video games.  Which leads me to my next point; I wish there was more talking instead of reading.  If I wanted to read I would have finished college, and I know that a lot of other gamers are thinking the same thing.  There are a lot of scenes where there’s talking then it pauses and you have to read, why not cover all bases and have the voice actors do the entire script?

Another great Marvel franchise game by Crave.  I just hope they spice things up next time.  Maybe make a first person or third person RPG instead of the “Gauntlet style” camera used in this and the other games, sometimes the angles get a little frustrating.

If you liked the X-men legends games, then you should not miss this game.  Or if you’re new to this style of game, try it out, it’s pretty easy to get into and very entertaining.

The good: The usage of lesser known characters.  More fun gameplay.
The bad: Too much like Xmen Legends II.  Button masher.
Replay value:  Medium High.
