Kevin Smith is an amazing storyteller,
I found this out by watching his first special: “An Evening With Kevin Smith”. Now he’s
at it again in “Too Fat for 40”. An uncensored televised event in which he talks about getting
older, getting kicked off of Southwest Airlines, working with Bruce Willis in Cop Out, working with George Carlin –
and so much more!
If you are a Kevin Smith fan, then you get an amazing amount of content
for an incredible price. This Blu-ray set comes with two discs, the first one is just at three hours long,
and the second disc contains a Q&A session that runs for about forty-five minutes. That’s nearly
four hours of amazing Kevin Smith stories.
One of the funnier moments
on the main disc is the fact that Kevin starts off the Q&A session within the first twenty minutes of the show, but it
takes him two and a half hours to answer. Mainly because each story he told would remind him of another
story – or one story would require you to know more information about another event in his life. And
because the poor guy had to stand in front of the microphone in the middle of the aisle while Kevin answered – he finally
ended up sitting on the floor for the remainder of the show.
His stories are so compelling.
Each one has character and is so descriptive (even when you don’t want it to be) that it puts you into
his story. There’s never a dull moment.
The second disc, well…
you’ll see why it was edited out of the show. It doesn’t stand up to disc one, but it’s
still rather entertaining to hear his fans ask odd questions and hear Kevin giving odd answers. Some of
the humor on disc two may be the fans themselves, when you watch it you’ll know what I mean… let’s just
say they aren’t all as well spoken as Kevin is.
The Bottom Line: Kevin Smith has some amazing stories, and he knows how to tell them.
And although this was highly entertaining, I still preferred “An Evening With Kevin Smith”.
Maybe it was because the stories were fresh, but I enjoyed those stories better. It’s still
an amazing buy if you are a Kevin Smith fan. I would pay this man to just talk with me – maybe tuck
me in and read me a bedtime story.
