Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2 puts you in the cockpit
of the world’s most advanced fighter jet in search for stolen Russian nuclear warheads; will it live up to the success
of the first game?
The
campaign is exactly what you would expect from a title such as H.A.W.X. 2, a straightforward aerial combat game with a little
bit of story thrown in there to keep you interested. During the campaign you will take control of many
jet fighters, an AC-130 gunship and piloting UAV’s… the variety was nice to have especially when the aerial combat
became monotonous after a few missions into the game. And although the story was lacking, especially for
a Tom Clancy game, it was incentive enough to finish the game.
When it came down to controlling the jets, they were fairly easy to maneuver -
and the mechanics seemed real for the most part. I would say that my only gripe when
it came down to flying the actual planes was the fact that it was very easy to get disorientated. There
were many circumstances that I would find myself flying sideways or upside-down because it was so easy to do so.
It seemed that there were no consequences or changes in the feeling of the plane when you would turn or begin to go
upside-down.
The story itself was mildly fun, but the cut scenes and some of the voice acting drew me out of the story during multiple
key moments. It seemed that they spent their primary focus on the aerial views and less on characters or
ground sequences that often seemed blurry or incomplete. And I wouldn’t say that the voice acting
was awful, but some of them just seemed too stereotypical and over-played.
The bottom line: H.A.W.X. 2 was fun for an air combat game, but it loses the fun factor eventually and just becomes
monotonous. The gunship and UAV levels change it up enough to continue the storyline to find a fun game
that needs only a few minor changes in the story and game-play to be one of the best air combat games to be released for the
Xbox 360. Let’s hope that H.A.W.X. 3 will learn from this games shortcoming.
