I've heard many mixed reviews when discussing The Hangover; many people
claim that it was the best comedy of the year… or possibly past few years. Unfortunately I wasn’t
as easy to manipulate as others were.
The Hangover follows four men and their wild time in Las Vegas while throwing
a bachelor party. Of course things don’t go as planned and they wake up with no memory of the night
before and one of their own missing. The complications they face after waking up not remembering anything
about the bachelor party were mildly entertaining and at times humorous, but were not enough for me to recommend buying this
movie. The situations they found themselves in often seemed predictable and over-played in any other buddy
comedy that’s come out since the 70’s. Renting is a different story; The Hangover was not an
awful film at all, I found some scenes to be entertaining and mildly humorous, but just not as funny as everyone was saying.
One thing I did enjoy about the
film is the fact that the main actors are not in high-school or college – they’re every-day guys that most people
can relate to. Instead of being the over-looked nerd or beefed up jock that seems to over-populate most
comedies since American Pie came out in the late ninety’s.
The music chosen for the film may
actually be the funniest part of the film - the fact that four grown men were in a convertible listening to “Take it
off” by The Donnas is probably the best unintentional joke in the entire movie.
The
bottom line: not a horrible movie, it could be a good rental for a lazy weekend while drinking some beer working on a hangover
of your own.
